Williamsburg Tech president, wife provide scholarship

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Williamsburg Technical College president Cleve H. Cox and his wife, Janice, recently showed their support for the Campaign for Educational Enrichment at the college under the auspices of the Williamsburg Technical College Foundation by providing funding for a President’s Scholarship.

Cox, who has been president of the college since 2004, said he thinks the financial needs of today’s college students far exceed the available funding sources.

“Students simply cannot cover the ever-rising costs of tuition, fees, books and attendance expenses,” he said in a press release issued by the college. “Lottery tuition assistance monies only pay after federal assistance is realized and cannot be used for books or fees. Sadly, many technical college students simply fall between the cracks when it comes to eligibility for financial assistance.”

The President’s Scholarship recipient must be a graduate of one of Williamsburg County’s high schools with the highest final high school grade point average. The award is to be disbursed on a pro-rated basis per semester. The recipient must maintain a 3.0 grade point average for subsequent semester awards, or the award is to be given to the first alternate identified during the initial selection process.
