The Johnsonville Police Department, along with assistance from many agencies throughout Marion and Florence counties, staged a checkpoint at two locations in Johnsonville on Friday night, May 30.
With 45 officers from throughout the 12th Judicial Circuit, 11 arrests were made, totalling fines of about $10,000.
During the evening hours, the officers confiscated a quantity of marijuana, illegal pills and cocaine, as well as an unlawful weapon.
Officer Legrande Gowdy, coordinator for the 12th Judicial Law Enforcement Network, said, “It was a good evening; it helped Johnsonville.”
During the checkpoint three local young men were arrested by the Johnsonville Police Department and booked into the Florence County Detention Center at Effingham.
These included Robert Jeffrey Lawrimore, age 20, of 456 Poston Blvd., Johnsonville; Nicholas Ashley Martin, age 20, of 365 Railroad Ave., Johnsonville, and Charles Leverne Stone, 26, of 1192 Blackwell Mill Road, Johnsonville. All were charged with possession of 28G (1 oz.) or less of marijuana or 10 G or less of hash, first offense.
Lawrimore and Martin also were charged with possession of other controlled substance in schedule 1 to V. first offense. Stone also was charged with possession of narcotics in schedule 1(B), LSD & schedule II (cocaine), first offense.
Florence County officials arrested a Hemingway man, Myron Oneil Tanner Jr. of 2442 Hemingway Highway, during the same checkpoint.
He also was booked into the Florence County Detention Center in Effingham. Tanner was charged with open container of beer or wine in motor vehicle.
