Although Sunday was not Wayne and Jamie Harrell’s last Sunday with the folks at Johnsonville First Baptist Church, they couldn’t leave the area until he publicly said his goodbyes to his church and the community, especially the youth, as he is leaving his position as Minister of Music and Youth at Johnsonville First Baptist Church. His last Sunday here was May 25.
The day was declared “Wayne and Jamie Harrell” at the church. After the morning service, the congregation held an old-fashioned picnic in their honor in the Family Life Center. Although it was indoors, the refreshment table had grilled hamburgers and hot dogs along with a smorgasbord of salads, chips and other picnic foods. The women of the church brought a variety of desserts.
The reception hall was decorated using a picnic décor with baskets, watermelon and other items. A money tree was in one area to oblige those who wanted to remember the couple with a token of their appreciation for their services to the church and community.
Wayne, an ordained Baptist minister, came to the JFBC in March 2002. He said, “The decision to resign as Youth and Music Minister did not come easy for Jamie and me. It was with much prayer that we entered our resignation on Sunday, May 4, after nearly seven years of ministry to the Johnsonville community.
“Jamie and I will be living with my grandfather in Davenport, Fla., where we both grew up. We met at Eastside Baptist Church in 1993 and were married in 1999, at which time I served as minister of music at a local church. ...
“I will not be working in fulltime ministry in Florida at first. I have accepted a position with a dialysis clinic, and will be performing dialysis on patients there. ...
“Jamie and I love Johnsonville, the people here—and consider it to be one of the best places on earth to live. We will greatly miss our friends, church family, and this area. As I’ve already said…this decision was not an easy one. However, following the will of God is not found in your ability to search for it. God’s will is found when you are willing to say, “yes” before you ever know what it is. ...
“We pray that our friends, church family and community will keep in touch with us.”
