Voters in South Carolina will cast their ballots Tuesday in party primaries that, in many cases, are likely to determine the winners in elections where there is no opposition in November.
Statewide incumbent Sen. Lindsay Graham faces opposition from Buddy Witherspoon in the GOP primary.
In the Pee Dee, Darlington County’s sheriff of 24 years, Glenn Campbell, is not seeking re-election. Three men — Darlington Police Capt. Wayne Byrd, Darlington County Chief Deputy Sheriff Tom Gainey and Lamar Police Chief Charles Woodle, are running in the Democratic primary to replace him.
Jay Hodge, solicitor for the 4th Judicial Circuit, which consists of Darlington, Chesterfield, Marlboro and Dillon counties, also isn’t seeking re-election. Two candidates — Jay Ervin and Will Rogers — are running for the spot in the Democratic primary.
In the city of Florence, incumbent Mayor Frank Willis has opposition for the first time in eight years from Stephen Wukela in the Democratic primary.
