A Darlington man accused of shooting another man to death nearly a year ago turned himself in to sheriff’s deputies Thursday, according to a press release issued Friday by the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office.
Shelton Shenard Addison, 27, of 510 Society Ave. is charged with murder in connection with the death of 27-year-old Brian Harris.
Harris was found shot to death early the morning of June 27 on the front lawn of his home at 1007 Coachman St., near U.S. 15 North and the U.S. 15 Bypass near Hartsville.
Witnesses told investigators three men entered the home and confronted the people inside.
At some point, one of the intruders fired shots at Harris, who staggered outside before collapsing on the ground, where he later died.
A witness told deputies the intruders left the scene in a vehicle heading north toward U.S. 15 (North Fifth Street).
Soon after responding to this call, deputies were dispatched to Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville. There, a man told them he was walking down Russell Road when someone inside a passing vehicle fired a shot at him, striking him in the abdomen. It’s not clear whether this incident was linked to Harris’ death.
The scene of Harris’ death was processed by State Law Enforcement Division agents, who gathered forensic evidence they think linked Addison to the crime, according to the press release.
A motive for the crime wasn’t released.
Warrants for Addison’s arrest were issued by deputies in April, according to the release, and Addison turned himself in at the sheriff’s office.
Addison remains in custody at the Darlington County jail awaiting a bond hearing before a circuit court judge.
