On Friday, May 30, a Hartsville native used his bicycle to help the Children’s Miracle Network.
Eric Bradshaw, who earlier joined with students at North Hartsville Elementary to raise money for the event, went 38 miles to McLeod Hospital biking for the cause.
The trip took around three hours, according to Bradshaw.
Bradshaw was joined by five other bikers on the trip.
The bikers received an escort through Hartsville by Hartsville Police and a South Carolina State Trooper.
The group was biking from Hartsville to Florence, but took a round about path in the effort.
They joined in with the parade for McLeod Chidlren’s Miracle Network to finish off the trip.
“It was great,” Bradshaw said. “The weather was great. We saw a thermometer that said it was 91 degrees, but we couldn’t tell.”
Bradshaw made a check presentation to the McLeod CMN for $8,990. However, he has since had more donations and now has more than $9,000.
Bradshaw was diagnosed with brittle-bone disease at the age of 33 and was eventually bound to a wheelchair.
He was inspired to help kids with this same illness.
“I saw them on the telethon last year and said, ‘If I could do anything for them, I would,’” Bradshaw said.
At that point, he opened up a savings account and began collecting money for the cause.
The account is still open and will remain open for a little while longer. Anyone wishing to donate may go to First Citizens Bank in Hartsville and donate.
Bradshaw also welcomes anyone wanting more information to call him at 332-5085.
