Computer failure has caused many First Citizens of South Carolina bank customers — along with First Citizens Bank & Trust Co. customers — to have their debit cards declined today.
The Raleigh, N.C.-based First Citizens Bank & Trust Co. experienced a disruption in its debit system from 10:36 a.m. to noon, company spokeswoman Barbara Thompson said.
“It was a disruption in the company system that prevented transactions from going through and being approved,” she said. “Everything has been resolved.”
Tiffany Rushton, of the corporate communication for Columbia-based First Citizens of South Carolina, said the issue has also been resolved within her bank’s network.
“First Citizens extends its sincerest apology to our customers for any inconvenience this may have caused them,” said Jenny Gould, executive vice president and retail banking director.
Although both banks share similar names, the companies are two different banks. First Citizens of South Carolina is a subsidiary of the First Citizens Bancorp. Inc., while First Citizens Bank & Trust Co.’s parent company is First Citizens BancShares Inc.
