Deputies arrested the manager of a Florence McDonald’s on Sunday for making a false 911 call regarding a break-in at the North Williston Road location, according to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

Derrick Anthony Woods, 23, 605 National Cemetery Road, Florence, is charged with second degree non-violent burglary, grand larceny, safecracking and unlawful use of 911, Florence County Detention Center booking reports show.

“He said someone had went into the safe and stole money out of it,”Capt. Julius Lee said. “Deputies were about three to four minutes away and responded very quickly. They got there and did some investigating and finally got the information they needed.”

The information deputies discovered led them to think the manager had stolen the money himself and tried to make it look as if the safe had been broken into, Lee said.

“He was just telling everyone that this is what he found,”he said.

The incident took place at about 3:30 a.m. after the restaurant had closed, Lee said.

“He was the manager of the store,”Lee said. “But he didn’t have permission to enter after hours.”

A $27,000 surety bond has been set for Woods’ release.
