Writer thanks those who organized celebration

Dear Editor,
On behalf of the Friendship Community, I would like to take the opportunity to thank the following people for all of their contributions to the 4th of July celebration: Councilwoman Eloise Rogers, Councilman Tom Shaw, Sen. Kent Williams, Jabs Fireworks of Dillon, Marvin Bennett, Nelson Davis and all others that gave and contributed to making that the firework display a success … and also last, but far from least, a special thanks to Charles Dozier for such a beautiful display of fireworks.
Again, thanks to you all.
Lucille Dozier

Writer enjoys coming home;
Laments city limits sign

Dear Editor,
I recently attended the reunion of the Mullins High School Class of 1961 … some 30 percent of our classmates having died since graduation. Coming back to Marion County, I noted that the entrance on U.S. Highway 76 to Marion was as dilapidated and awful looking as always. But, I noted that when I went into the Mullins City limits, something has happened there!
Some of the homes had been straightened out, along with their yards, and some vacant lots had been cleaned up … there was evidence of several businesses. In short, there is a positive look for Mullins and hopefully a return to a more prosperous and hope-filled time.
My heart felt thanks to the Dry Dock Restaurant for being our reunion facilities and for the preparation of a good meal. Thanks, as always to the Comfort Inn, which is a great “home away from home”. The greatest thanks go to the organizers of our reunion, Becky Altman, Wallace Hayes, Bootsie Hennecy and Joan Jenkins. It is indeed an honor and a privilege to be a member of this class and I certainly look forward to my return for the next one. You go, Marion County!
Best Regards,
E. Gordon Summey II
