A mother and child are back home following an Amber Alert search by authorities from South and North Carolina. Brunswick county Police arrested Marco Vaught last night and charged him in the kidnapping of his wife and daughter, Evette and Naima.
While Evette was telling us about her experience, she mentioned Naima didn't grasp all that happened.
"She really didn't understand what was going on, but she wasn't scared at all. But my son and oldest daughter; I think they were the most scared because everything happened so fast."
Evette says she filed a restraining order against Marco, and he's in jail awaiting a bond hearing. She also said there are 2 other men who were involved with her abduction.
"My husband he said he wasn't going to run, so he didn't run. And there was no harm done to me or my daughter. The only thing I was thinking about was her and my safety as well."
Evette also hopes others can learn from her experience.
“If you're in a situation to a point you are constantly being abused over and over, just get out while you can. And especially when kids are in the middle of it, just get out of it."
Evette is thankful she, Naima and the rest of her family can be together again. She's grateful to the people in Loris and all the way to Brunswick County.
Evette says she'll go to court in Conway on the 29th to finalize the restraining order against her husband Marco.
