A biker-paloozza on the south end of the Grand Strand had people rocking the night away.
The Suck Bang and Blow Biker bar on US 17 Bypass in Murrells Inlet played host to the concert to show support for the spring and fall Harley-Davidson weeks on the Grand Strand.
Organizers said since Horry County Council members have not made any kind of formal decision about the future of the rallies, now is the time for people to be vocal about how they feel.
Todd Price, owner of the bar, said he saw an opportunity to welcome bikers to his bar and restaurant not only for a good time, but also for a good cause.
Price said the pro-rally concert, featuring two popular 80's bands, is an opportunity to let people know that even though the city of Myrtle Beach wants to eliminate the Grand Strand bike rallies, they can still let other elected officials know how they feel.
"We have petitions available at the door and we also have more importantly voter registration forms if they are not registered to vote we are encouraging them to register to vote because the best way you can get through the political process is to vote." said Price.
According to Price, 20 percent of the proceeds from the $10 cover charge will go to a pro-rally fund.
Bikers, like Keith “Stump” Williams, said he will support any effort that results in keeping the rallies on the Grand Strand for many years to come.
Williams said, "No, we don't want to move it, I live here, it's convenient for me, I got plenty of friends that come down here, spend money, now I wouldn't move it."
Price said he doesn't think the revenue generated from the rallies can be replaced, nor does he think the rallies can be eliminated.
"They can succeed in not issuing vendor permits, they can never stop people form coming here and visiting, I mean we are a tourist’s destination, but what will we do, we will fight it." said Price.
The fight, Price said, may come in the form of a legal defense, rally campaign, or media campaign, he's not yet decided how the proceeds from Wednesday night’s concert will be used.
But he said the main goal is to get people who support bikers and the rallies together as a group and come up with a plan to keep the rallies on the Grand Strand.
