Hartsville City Council meets to 'fine tune'

Hartsville City Council held first reading of two separate ordinances at its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday night.

The first ordinance is to approve a new three-year lease renewal of the old Hartsville Manufacturing Warehouse building located on Washington Street to Habitat for Humanity.

The second ordinance changes the city laws on tree planting. “Essentially, it is a minor amendment regarding who, when and where people can remove trees,” City Manager Jim Pennington said. The ordinance will also abolish the city’s tree committee.

Council also planned to award MAR Construction of Lexington a $307,000 bid for design and construction of a second concession stand and scorekeeper’s tower at Byerly Park. The tower will be for the second pod of baseball and softball fields that will be added to the park.

Pennington described the meeting as a tune up, or fine tuning some of the city's business. He said the council had a few minor issues they needed to close out. "We knew July was going to be slow," he said, "but we still have a few minor issues that need attending."

The council also planned to hear from a few concerned citizens over budget issues.
