Coastal Carolina University released its tourism study Thursday. It says from June 22nd to June 28th, occupancy rates averaged 78 percent. That's down 3 percent from the same time last year.
The results come from a sample of hotel, condo-hotel and campground properties.
Occupancy rates for vacation homes during that same week were 84.7 percent.
That's down .3 percent from the same time last year.
Over the past six weeks, from May 18th to June 28th, 65.8 percent of the sample were occupied. That's down 11 percent from last year.
But for the first time this year since Memorial Day weekend, average occupancy last weekend was higher than the same time last year.
And there's good news for the 4th of July weekend.
The sample of hotels, condo-hotels and campsites could be greater than 90 percent.
