Fireworks stands are appearing all across the Eastern Carolinas in anticipation of tomorrow’s big July 4 holiday.
But while this is one of the biggest times of the year for the pretty sparklers, this may not be a great time of the year for sales.
Some stand operators say sales are down a bit, mostly because of economic factors.
“Sales is fairly good. It’s not as good as it should be, but I think that’s got a lot to do with the economy, the high price of gas,” said Ben Smith, a member of the Delmae Ruritan Club who was operating a fireworks stand off of South Irby Street in Florence.
Operators say they’re hoping things pick up this evening and on into Friday. They add those are some of the biggest times for sales.
Smith says his club sells fireworks twice a year, around July 4 and New Year’s Day, to raise funds for their community projects, which include things like building wheelchair ramps for residents.
