JOHNSONVILLE - In welcoming guests to the seniors’ Class Day Ceremony at Johnsonville High School, Class President Meredith Welch said, “Every one of you who sits here today was invited because you have influenced one of us in an unforgettable way. Whether you watched us grow as your children, gave us too much homework, or were just there to encourage us along the way, all of you have made this Class of 2008 who we are today.
“Thank you for never giving up on us or letting us settle for anything less than our best. Because of you, we will go our separate ways in life and pursue our dreams to make something of ourselves.”
In her devotion, Katelyn Carraway said, “Some may say we have reached the finish line, but truly our race has only begun. Through the years we have accomplished many goals and overcome numerous goals that we could not have made without the help of family, friends, and God. As we venture out on our own and journey down our individual paths, we must remember that all things are possible. Philippians 4:13 tells us that we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength. Class of 2008, you have no walls holding you back. No matter what we think we cannot do, if it is in God’s will, He will allow us to accomplish it. Right now our future may seem unclear, but while we only see scribbles, God sees the completed masterpiece. Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs us to “Trust in the Lord with all our heart, and do not rely on our own understanding; think about Him in all our ways, and He will guide us on the right path.
“To the Class of 2008, I challenge each of you to embrace life, follow your dreams, and know that all things are possible with Christ. We have no walls stopping us.”
Her twin sister, Nicole Carraway, gave a prayer where she asked for her classmates to use the knowledge and wisdom gained from individuals (family, friends, teachers, coaches and administrators) who have always “cared for us and encouraged us to excel in all aspects of our lives. Help us to use the knowledge and wisdom we have gained from these individuals to live a life that is pleasing to you. Lord, help us to always seek your will and to put you first in our lives.”
Brooke Parker gave the Class Poem. The introduction to the Class Song, “Whenever You Remember” was by Devoney Singletary, while the Class History, which detailed their activities through Primary School, Middle School and High School, especially their senior year, was given by Ellen Stone and Michael Miller (Class Vice President).
Chris Barr gave the Class Motto, the essence of which said, “If I could do it again, I’d do it the same, not one regret: I wouldn’t change a thing.”
In an introduction to the presentation of flowers, Class Secretary Savannah Cockfield, said, “Over the past 18 years many people have influenced us and helped mold us into the people we are today. You picked us up when we fell, listened to us talk about our hopes and dreams, and helped cast away any fears. All of you moms, dads, grandparents and other special individuals have been angels here on earth. Now, as we prepare to leave and pursue our dreams, remember that even if you are not always with us, you will always remain in our hearts.”
Each senior student then left his or her seat, and walked to some person or persons who have been near to them and presented them with an arm bouquet of flowers.
As Charlotte Hanna surprised High School Principal Jim Berry with flowers, she also gave a “Special Thanks” to him.
During a special candle lighting ceremony, at Mr. Berry’s request, the song, “I Hope You Dance,” by Leanne Womack was played especially for this class.
After the benediction by John Michael Davis, the class and audience stood for the Alma Mater by Larry Jackson and the recessional was by Mrs. Joan Newell, pianist.
