Harvest Hope Food Bank extends an urgent request for you to join the EXTRA Mile Campaign. The campaign is a summer hunger relief campaign from June 1 to September 30.
South Carolina has the second largest population of hungry people in the country, according to the US Department of Agriculture. Since January, the number of families needing assistance increased 32-39 percent each month compared to 2007.
Harvest Hope is asking businesses to go the extra mile this summer to secure 6,000,000 pounds of supplemental food needed during the summer. Each dollar donated provides 10 pounds of food and one pound of food offers those in need a nutritious meal. For every dollar donated, 98 cents goes directly to food programs.
