South Carolina Democratic voters will head to the polls Saturday to decide who they want to be the next Commander in Chief. As many of them mark their ballots, however, they’ll be taking to heart the top issues in the race.
One of those issues is illegal immigration. According to Dr. Neal Thigpen, a political analyst, it’s more of an issue for the Republican candidates than it is for candidates on the Democratic side.
"So, it’s somewhat of a live grenade on the Democratic side, but on the Republican side it’s an earthquake," said Thigpen.
The Democrats do, however, touch on the issue.
Hillary Clinton voted for a 2006 bill that would have provided a conditional path to citizenship.
Barack Obama also voted for the 2006 immigration bill and supported a border fence.
John Edwards supports a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants who speak English and meet other conditions.
According to The Associated Press, Dennis Kucinich wants to legalize "hardworking, taxpaying" illegal immigrants.
Mike Gravel’s website says he "favors protecting our borders and monitoring the flow of immigrants into our country."
