The Atlantic Beach Mayoral candidate and current town council member who was charged with resisting arrest and traffic violations is set to appear before a judge Wednesday afternoon. 58 year old Retha Pierce was arrested on Christmas night by Horry County Police after they say she was seen swerving on U. S. Highway 17 near Myrtle Beach. According to the incident report, once she stopped, she got out of the vehicle, locked it and told the officer she needed to go to the bathroom.
Video tape released of the traffic stop shows Pierce asking the officer several times if she could use the bathroom. She then attempted to walk away and was placed under arrest. Pierce told News 13 later that she felt like the officer assaulted her and was wrongly charged.
