Republican candidates on health care

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The South Carolina Republican primary is coming up this Saturday January 19. That means Republicans across the state will hit the polls and vote in the first-in-the-South presidential primary.

The issue of health care, or health insurance, came in fourth in the News13 Network’s "Voice of the Voter" survey and Republican candidates have different views on the issue.

Rudy Giuliani supports an income tax deduction of $7500 per taxpayer to defray insurance costs.

Mitt Romney favors incentives for states to expand affordable coverage.

John McCain favors a $2500 refundable tax credit for individuals and a $5000 tax credit for families to make health insurance more affordable.

Mike Huckabee says we "need to get serious about preventive health care," according to his website.

Fred Thompson prefers market-driven expansion of affordable coverage, but no mandate.

Ron Paul supports "making all medical expenses tax deductible," according to his website.

Duncan Hunter supports expansion of health insurance through tax breaks, not government-sponsored universal coverage.
