Some people travel the country just to take part in marathons like the one in Myrtle Beach.
And they each have very different stories.
Melynda Baker is from Bushell, Florida and it's her second time in the Myrtle Beach Marathon.
But she's not running it.
Melynda lost her leg in a car crash four years ago so she'll compete in a hand-crank wheelchair.
“I’m an inspiration for the runners. When they want to quit, they see us go by and it gives them the inspiration to finish the 26.2 miles,” Melynda told News13.
Melynda says competing in marathons has kept her active since the crash.
She’s lost almost 30 pounds since she started competing and already knocked two hours off of her race time.
