Darlington police arrest burglary suspect who dropped wallet

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Police arrested a man in connection with a home invasion and attempted sexual assault shortly after the suspect returned to the crime scene to retrieve his wallet, Darlington Police Capt. Danny Watson said.

Stanley Bernard Simon, 33, of 234 Syracuse St. in Darlington faces charges of first-degree burglary and attempted first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Simon likely will face charges in other, “very similar” cases, Watson said.

Officers responded about 3 a.m. Monday to a home on Stone Road where residents awoke to screams and found a man they didn’t know in their house, Watson said.

The man, who was nearly undressed, had broken into the house through a window, Watson said.

Residents told police the man ran from the house but returned to knock on the door in an attempt to recover his wallet, Watson said.

Simon remains in the Darlington County Detention Center, where he awaits a circuit court bond hearing on his burglary count. His bond was set at $30,210 on the attempted sexual assault charge, according to Darlington County booking reports.
