Hanna obituary

Having a fascination of airplanes and loving to fly, Carrol took his final flight, his heavenly flight, on Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, after an extended illness.

A funeral was Monday, Dec. 29 in Lake City Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment followed in Lake City Memorial Park.

Born on June 12, 1947, in Johnsonville, Mr. Hanna was a son of the late William Allen Hanna and Ulmer Hughes Hanna. He was a graduate of Johnsonville High School, and was the owner and operator of Carrol’s Piano and Organ Co. for 25 years.

He was a member of the National Piano Technician’s Guild and was a certified piano tuner.

He was pianist for the Bibletones Quartet of Florence for 25 years. He was a former member of the Lake City Civil Air Patrol, the Gideon’s International and the Lake City Chamber of Commerce.

While a member of the Chamber, he was awarded Business Man of the Year. His business was also awarded Business of the Year, and he was honored as a “Man of Steel.” Carrol was a former member of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church of the Pentecostal Faith, Johnsonville. He was presently a member of Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as Deacon, pianist/organist, and Young Adult Sunday School Teacher before his illness.

Surviving are his mother, Ulmer Hughes Hanna of Lake City-Scranton Convalescent Center, Scranton, who was the first to teach him about Jesus; his devoted wife of 37 years, Lila Mae Gray Hanna of Lake City; two daughters, Gwen H. (Nelson) York of Charlotte, N.C., and Beth Hanna, Francis Marion University, Florence; two wonderful grandsons, Ethan William Creel and Andrew James York, both of Charlotte, N.C.; three brothers, Glenn (Debbie) Hanna of Darlington, Billy (Janice) Hanna of Burgaw, N.C. and Edwin (Rhetta) Hanna of Turbeville; two special aunts, Jean (Norman) Edgeworth and Lois (Bobby) Haselden all of Johnsonville; a special uncle, Herbert (Dorothy) Hanna of Elizabethtown, N.C.; his extended family, three special brothers-in-law, Legrand Gray, Larue “Rookie” (Joyce) Gray all of Lake City and Ray (Ginny) Gray of Florence; three special sisters-in-law, Shelby Bell of Scranton, Chrystal Gray of Lake City, and Ann (Terry) Dennis, Kenly, N.C.; also, many special cousins, nieces and nephews.
