Police have arrested a woman in connection with a Christmas Day burglary at a north Florence home, Florence Police Maj. Carlos Raines said.

Christy Monique Gerald, 28, of Florence faces a charge of first-degree burglary, Florence County Detention Center booking reports show.

A resident on the 500 block of Carver Street said the suspect kicked in his home’s front door and took an Xbox video game console from his living room, Raines said. The man also told police he struck the suspect and forced her to leave in defense of his family, Raines said.

The suspect, who denied breaking in, told police she was invited into the home before someone struck her face with a bottle of vodka and stole her money, Raines said.

The man at the residence said he didn’t know the suspect, but knew her brother by nickname, Raines said.

Gerald remains in custody at the jail in Effingham, according to booking reports.
