For those who need a hot meal and a warm place to spend their holiday along the Grand Strand can count on the American Red Cross to do just that.
Beth Callaway a volunteer with the organization came all the way from Virginia Beach to serve the hungry people of Myrtle Beach. She tells News 13, that she wouldn’t have spent her Christmas day any other way.
“I don't feel like I’m giving up anything,” she said. “I feel like I’m getting something because I feel it's a wonderful thing to do and I’m just sharing Christ’s' love.”
In the spirit of the season, Callaway along with several other organization volunteers served a traditional Christmas Day meal at the Risen Christ Lutheran Church.
The church welcomed more than 300 men, women and children from along the Grand Strand, that got to feast on the festive treat.
The holiday meal was particularly special to Ruth Cluett, who lost her husband just before Thanksgiving Day this year.
“It gave my daughter and myself an opportunity to come in here and have a Christmas meal with the people of the community,” said Cluett.
Sitting across the table from Ruth Cluett, was Steve Buffington, who recently moved to the beach from Michigan. He said that he feels blessed for having all the coleslaw, turkey and yams to feast on because he sure won't be hungry this Christmas.
"I probably wouldn't be eating Christmas dinner,” said Buffington. “I’m single and I like to cook but I don't like to cook for myself so it probably would've been eating cold cuts."
