Don’t forget to celebrate the future
Dear Editor,
Hey, times are rough right now. But the end of the world is not coming today and no matter what the new media tells us, the sun will rise and a new day will begin tomorrow. We have to all hang together and not lose our sense of humor and our caring for each other, no matter how bleak they tell us the future is. We will get through this and come out better on the other side. Just remember, never, never, ever give up!
The first annual Black and White Ball will be presented to all party-goers in the area on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m., in the Marion Emporium.
For only $50 per person, you can enjoy live music, heavy hors d’oeuvres and all the cocktails you can handle. A special dance floor has been installed so you get down and boogie and welcome in the New Year.
If you wish to have a good time, just call the Main Street office at 423-9918 and reserve your place for the Good Time, Party Time, Hall of Fame, New Year’s Eve time, party of the year!
Main Street Marion wants to wish each and everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy Hanukkah and a very special Holiday Season. Drive carefully, enjoy yourself, have a good time and we will all see each other for a good and fun 2009.

Spreading some Christmas cheer
Dear Editor,
As i was sitting here i started thinking of how bad the economy is right now. I often think of the people who don't have a roof over their head or a warm bed to lie in, It really saddens me. I often here people say this area has nothing to offer.
I once used to believe that, but then I realized that change starts within me. Doing something different isn't always bad, not doing it is when you fail. Instead of looking for help, we need to first help ourselves. When I write these letters I am not looking for recognition, only hoping that someone will come across my letter and realize that they too can accomplish their dreams and goals.
I am not all the way where I want to be, but if I work at it, I know one day I will succeed. This time of the year always appears to have people stressed out because they can't make ends meet or providing Christmas gifts for their children and families. As you can see, jobs aren't stable at this point, at any time a layoff or even closing is possible. The best gift we can give this year is a helping hand.
We can bless someone else by listening, smiling or holding a conversation … as citizens in this community, let’s pull together and get some things accomplished. Let’s celebrate this season with helping one another -- it is so much better than being stressed out!
When we see someone out there ringing the bell at the local store, let’s drop something in it, even if it just a nickel or dime … anything will help someone who is not as fortunate as you are.
So, let’s all have a Merry Christmas and a fulfilling New Year!
