Friday morning, a number of people gathered at the Manna House in Florence for a giveaway.
A thousand items were donated from clothing, toys, shoes and books---all things Connie Miller and other Florence residents picked up for free.
"The other day when they told me about it I was excited I wanted to get here in time. They said be here at 9. We got here at 8:48. (laugh)," Miller said.
Miller came early to pick up many items, but most of weren't for her.
"I have some kids in the neighborhood that call me grandmother so I'm going to give it to them," Miller said.
From one person to the next everything handed out for the most part came from members of the Florence community.
"One helping hand, and this city is filled with loving and caring people. Not everyone knows that," Miller said.
In her three months living in Florence, Connie Miller said she's never been more thankful during such a hard time.
"You never know where life will take you. You might be comfortable and got your family, but there's someone out there that needs your help. Florence is a giving town," Miller said.
Volunteers from Winston-Salem came down to help with the clothing give-a-away and they also donated some of the items.
If you would like to donate clothes to the Manna House you can do so, but only on specific dates.
Give them a call for more information.
