GEORGETOWN - ‘Tis the season for giving and some local postal workers delivered more than just presents. They helped grant a Christmas wish for a local 14-year-old, who wrote a letter to Santa earlier this month.
Ivonne Bryant of Georgetown didn't ask for anything for herself in her letter to Santa, except for a little help for her single mom and two sisters, after the family's home was re-possessed a year ago.
"We needed heat,” said the teenager, “we needed central air and needed furniture."
The letter didn't make it all the way to the North Pole, but it didn't have to. It touched the hearts of postal worker, Debbie Taylor and her generous co-workers and that's all it took.
"We all got together and we just went around some businesses,” said Taylor, “and started asking for things and they just gave it to us."
Local businesses responded with deliveries of everything from furniture and toys to a microwave and even a refrigerator.
“Everybody needs to help somebody,” continued Taylor. “That’s what we're all here for is to help each other.”
Even in this bad economy, at least Ivonne Bryant knows that the postal workers set out to spread some goodwill and they succeeded.
“I feel overwhelmed,” said Ivonne. “I feel that there is somebody out there that is listening to me and to these other teenagers in the world that are going through a bad time during the recession."
