While most of the economic news is not positive, it’s pretty hard to find any sort of decent parking spot at Coastal Grand Mall.
Marketing Director Deb Bramlett said the signs of a struggling economy are hard to find. She said while the rest of the country is going through a recession and scaling back, Coastal Grand is opening new stores. "We seem to be on the other end of the, of what's happening in the economy right now." said Bramlett.
Linda Koston, who lives in Myrtle Beach, said because of the economy, she is not going overboard this holiday season, like she normally does, but is being more selective. Koston said choosing the right place to shop is just as important as what she buys. "This mall has a lot of stores for children and with children and grandchildren it's the perfect place to come to, actually it's my second visit here."
Bramlett adds that one of the reasons for the success at Coastal Grand Mall is stores like The Buckle, which isn't just unique to Coastal Grand Mall, but also unique to the area. "We're very fortunate and I have to tell you it has to do with the names that we have here, we have the unique brands, that you can't find in other shopping centers here in myrtle beach." said Bramlett.
But not every store in Coastal Grand is prospering, Bramlett said the former Freidman’s jewelry store is part of a national chain that's going out of business, but said they are working on replacing it with another store. Bramlett adds they plan to open a new restaurant in January and they're working on adding to a new wing and hope to add even more to the already 150 stores.
