Two Maxton, N.C., men have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at Dillon’s Wal-Mart on Tuesday night, according to Dillon police reports.
Ronnie Dean Locklear, 39, and Larry Kendall Locklear, 20, were captured after a brief chase from the business, the incident report shows. It’s not clear if the two men are related.
The crime happened just before 10:30 p.m. at the store on Enterprise Road. An employee told police one of the men approached her register, placed $2 on the counter and asked to buy a pack of cigarettes. When she opened the cash resgister, he demanded she give him all the money from it and showed her a gun tucked in the front of his pants, the report said.
She surrendered a large amount of cash and as he tried to leave the store, two people tried to stop him. He stopped, turned the gun on them and threatened to shoot them, according to the report.
The robber left the store and got into a light blue four-door Geo Metro driven by another man, the report said. Police spotted the vehicle as it was leaving the store’s parking lot and when an officer tried to stop it, the driver sped up and tried to escape, then finally stopped on Wix Road, where the robber threw the handgun from the vehicle near the railroad tracks. The gun was recovered by police at the scene of the traffic stop.
Ronnie Locklear faces charges of armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, the report shows.
Larry Locklear is charged with third-offense driving under suspension, armed robbery, failure to stop for a blue light and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, according the report.
Both are in custody at the Dillon County Detention Center awaiting bond hearings.
