S.C. Department of Natural Resources officers said found Friday afternoon the body of a fisherman who went missing in Lynches River last month.
Robert Canteen Jr.'s body was found about 2:30 p.m. nearly 100 yards from where they had previously found equipment from his boat, Florence County Coroner M.G. “Bubba” Matthews confirmed.
Canteen’s body is being sent to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for an autopsy to determine the manner of his death, Matthews said.
Canteen, 51, of Conway was dropped off by his wife, Pearl Canteen, at Odell Venters Landing near Johnsonville about 8:30 a.m. Nov. 19. Since then, crews had been searching the river for the missing man. Family members said Canteen couldn’t swim.
During the search, fishermen reported to emergency personnel that they had found Robert Canteen’s overturned boat, along with a seat and a life jacket, about a mile south of the landing.
