Woman struck and killed by vehicle while changing tire in Loris; husband in hospital

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Horry County Coroner, Robert Edge, says last night a husband and wife were stopped on Airport Road in Loris because of a flat tire.

Edge says another person traveling from the other direction pulled over to assist the couple.

He then says a 3rd vehicle came from behind the couple's disabled vehicle, and struck it.

Edge says the call came in at about 8:30 Friday night and the woman, 67-year old May Campbell Ward of Clarendon, NC was pronounced dead at the scene.

He also says Ward's husband was taken to the Loris ER and then to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Edge tells News 13 that the driver who struck the couple says he was blinded by the lights of the second vehicle who assisted Ward and her husband.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Officials say the crash remains under investigation.
