Timmonsville police officer suspended

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A Timmonsville police officer has been suspended for three days without pay after he responded to a call outside the department’s jurisdiction Sunday, Timmonsville Police Chief Mike Martin said.

Sgt. David Nichols was on duty for the department when he answered a call for additional help from a local rescue squad that was responding to a crash on Interstate 95, Martin said. Nichols also is a member of that rescue squad.

Martin said Nichols drove his patrol car to the scene and parked it in the emergency lane, where it was struck by a passing vehicle.

No serious damage was done to the car, and S.C. Highway Patrol troopers said Nichols was not at fault.

The case was under review this week and the suspension went into effect Thursday, Martin said.

Once the sergeant returns to work, he will placed on a 90-day probationary period with the department, the chief said.
