Deputies have arrested a suspect in a rash of car break ins at two area churches that occurred within a short period of time on Sunday, Nov. 30, according to a release from the Darlington County Sheriff's Office.

Citizen assistance led to the arrest of Clayton DaQon Hall, 18, of Knollwood Dr., Hartsville, on Tuesday morning.

He is charged with multiple counts of breaking into vehicles and larceny.

The exact number of counts is unknown as investigators conclude their findings.

The first series of break ins occurred at Swift Creek Baptist Church, N. Center Rd. Deputies responded to a call to find that at least seven cars had been broken into, the release said. Deputies noticed that items such as purses had been either stolen or searched. Cell phones, cash and other electronic items were also stolen, according to the report.

The second incident occurred at Indian Branch United Methodist Church, 2100 Indian Branch Rd., Darlington. The release said at least four cars had been broken into, and similar items were taken.

The total estimated loss and damage between the two sets of incidents is nearly $4,700, according to reports.

In both cases, the release said, entry into the vehicles was forced. The churches are within minutes of one another

The sheriff's office also would like to remind citizens to secure items of value when leaving heir vehicles unattended, especially during the Christmas season.
Securing valuables in the trunk is best, the release said.

The office also recommends churches have someone periodically check parking lots during services in an attempt to spot suspicious persons.

A bond hearing for Hall has not been set; however, one will occur when investigations are complete.

As of press time Tuesday, Hall was in custody at Darlington County Detention Center.
