Socastee High School faculty and students are mourning the loss of 17-year-old student, Cassady Jones-French who died from injuries sustained in a Friday evening crash.

Those who knew her best say, Cassady is someone who lived her short life to the fullest.

"She had high energy. She wanted to achieve a lot and she liked doing it with her friends and her peers”, says Dr. Paul Browning, principal at Socastee High school, who has known Cassady since she was very young.

“She drunk from the cup of life deeply”, he continues, "she was one of those people that everyday was a life's best day for her".

The Friday night car accident that claimed the life of the 17-year-old cheerleader and junior student happened around 8:45 near the intersection of Harbour Town and Galley Harbour drives, close to the backgate.

According to troopers, Cassady was riding with two other people in a car heading west on Harbour Town Dr., when the car ran off the road and into a ditch.

"When I pulled up I saw the car in the ditch and it was really scary to see" says Cassady's school mate, Felicia Harmon. "I came up to the accident and I saw that it was someone from my school, And it was really very frightening not knowing if they were going to be ok. It looked a very bad accident to me, it was very traumatic."

Medics rushed a 17-year-old driver and two passengers including Cassady to the hospital. The coroner's office says, Cassady wasn't able to survive her injuries and died on Sunday.

Cassady’s school counselors say, whether it was cheering from the sidelines at the school's football games or playing hard for the soccer team, she was a role model student who was involved in just about everything.

"She certainly set a wonderful example here for the kids to follow.", says the school's guidance department director, Helen Edwards. "I think that's a lot of the things the kids are looking for to remember about her".

Dr.Browning says, he cannot forget the infectious smile that Cassady had. It was something, he recalls, a pleasure to see every time she came to school.

“I can't remember many days when she walked in the door that she didn't have a big smile on her face, she was one of those people that everyday was a life's best day for her”.

Cassady's friends came by to where the accident happened and laid wreaths, flowers and stuffed animals Monday.

A viewing will be held on Thursday between 5 and 7pm, at Goldfinch Funeral Homes Beach Chapel at, 11528 Highway 17 Bypass
Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
