Wednesday morning, Coastal Carolina University police arrested a male student, after a female student says he sexually assaulted her.
William Chandler, was taken to J. Reuben Long Detention center where he was charged with criminal sexual assault. Chandler later posted bond and was released.
University officials told News13, CCU has placed Chandler on interim suspension. The freshman football player has also been suspended from the team, until a decision can be made by university officials.

Early today, Coastal Carolina University received a report of an alleged sexual assault that occurred on campus. The incident involved two students, a male and a female. University police investigated the matter, arrested the alleged assailant and transported him to J. Reuben Long Detention Center. The male student – William Michael Chandler, a freshman of Conway – has been formally charged with criminal sexual assault-third degree and has been released on bond. Chandler has been suspended from the University on an interim basis. A final determination of the alleged assailant's status as a student will be made through the campus judicial process. Chandler has also been suspended from the football team, pending the outcome of the legal and campus judicial processes.
