A Marion man was arrested after deputies said he used an electric saw take dozens of catalytic converters off vehicles, Florence County Sheriff Kenney Boone said.

Ben Brown Jr., 34, of 810 Aucild St. is charged with three counts of malicious injury to personal property, two counts of grand larceny-value more than $5,000, grand larceny-value less than $5,000 and petit larceny, Florence County Detention Center reports show.

Deputies said the suspect and his accomplice went to several used car lots in the Pee Dee and used a hydraulic jack to elevate the cars so they could take the converters, Boone said.

Darlington County sheriff’s deputies searched the accomplice’s residence and found the tools they used, Boone said.

Brown remains in custody at the jail in Effingham on a $39,000 surety bond and a $1,000 surety bond.
