Deputies are searching for a suspect after a woman was shot in the leg as she was getting into a car Friday, Dillon County Chief Deputy Sheriff Douglas Pernell said.
The incident happened on S.C. 9 but investigators aren’t sure exactly where because witnesses and the victim gave conflicting stories, Pernell said.
The victim said she was walking along the highway and was trying to get into a car when she was shot. Several witnesses said they ran from behind the nearby Ponderosa Club and found the victim, Pernell said.
Deputies do know a small-caliber weapon was used in the shooting, he said.
The victim was treated and released Friday from a local hospital, Pernell said. She is expected to make a full recovery.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (843) 841-3721 or Crime Stoppers of the Pee Dee at (843) 667-TIPS (8477) or (866) 369-TIPS (8477). Callers need not reveal their identities.
