Bennettsville man dies in Darlington County crash

A Bennettsville man died Tuesday after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed, S.C. Highway Patrol reports show.

Walter McDuffie, 58, was killed in the crash, which happened at 8:50 a.m. on S.C. 34, less than two miles from the Marlboro-Darlington county line.

The 2004 Cadallic sport utility vehicle McDuffie was driving ran off the roadway and struck and embankment, according to the Highway Patrol.

McDuffie wasn’t wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was the vehicle’s only occupant.

The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
