An early morning accident near the Wal-Mart and Tanger Outlet center on the north side of the Grand Strand killed one person early Saturday morning and injured another.

Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard says it happened at about 1:20 a.m. on Highway 17 Bypass in Myrtle Beach.

She says the motorcyclist, Michael Alexander, 56, of Little River, died on the scene, while the passenger was taken to Grand Strand Regional Hospital. Willard said no other vehicles were involved.

Highway Patrol officials say the motorcycle was traveling northbound, and lost control when attempting to cross the median. They also say neither passenger was wearing a helmet. The Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
