Johnakin Middle School is one of six statewide recipients of a federal grant in support of educational technology.

One focus of the grant is community outreach and parent involvement. In cooperation with Bishop Michael Blue and the Door of Hope Church, the school is offering a class in basic computer skills for members of the community. The class meets on Thursday afternoons from 4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. in the media center technology lab.

JMS teachers Marjorie Collins, Monica Loadholt, and Julie Barfield; Media Specialist Laura Atkinson; and District Technology Coach Anne Hood will share the responsibility of teaching the class, which will cover basic computing, Microsoft Office, and Internet research.

For information, contact Bishop Blue at 423-2571 or Anne Hood at 423-1811.
