Thanksgiving eaters' remorse

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The day after Thanksgiving many Americans are fighting the turkey's revenge.

Studies said Americans do gain weight over the holidays, and while many were out Friday exercising their wallets, others were out exercising their physique.

"Oh yeah, everybody's got it on their mind even if they don't make it here, Everybody's thinking I really should be working out," said Anna Perry, McLeod Fitness Center member.

Anna Perry was working out to work off her Thanksgiving meal and then some.

"Oh my gosh. There's so many leftovers, and for me to make it okay in my head to eat the leftovers I go to the gym," said Perry.

While McLeod Health and Fitness Center said their numbers may have been down the day after Thanksgiving, that's not what they expect in the next few days to come.

"There is a good chance there will be more people here on Monday than maybe we saw in the previous Mondays of November. That will be because of yesterday, Thanksgiving Day," said Mark Sansbury, Director of Fitness Services at McLeod Health and Fitness.

More at their facility inspired by feelings of remorse after feasting, something Perry said is what drove her mom.

"I've never been able to motivate her until today. I think just being sluggish from all the food yesterday is the extra motivating factor that just got her out of the bed, got her to do it today," said Perry.

It's inspiration for many that fitness experts said will be short-lived, but they'll be back in full force come the first of the year trying to shed all the extra holiday weight.

One reason people pack on the pounds is because they're so busy, and they don't take the time to eat healthy during the holidays.

After the first of the year the McLeod Fitness Center said they gain around 400 new members, many due to the New Year's resolution to lose weight.
