After a wonderful Thanksgiving, filled with great food and family fellowship, make plans to bring your relatives to Dillon Motor Speedway for the Seneca Turkey 300 Jimmy Jones Memorial Race this weekend.
Years ago, when the old Dillon Raceway thrived, there was an annual Thanksgiving weekend, “Turkey 300” race. It always proved to be a successful event with enormous numbers of race cars and racing fans in attendance. The new Dillon Motor Speedway plans to move forward with this tradition. Also, the Seneca Turkey 300 race will serve as a memorial for Jimmy Jones, a former racing veteran of Dillon Motor Speedway.
Jones lived in Dillon and was widely known by many members of the racing community and by most competitors of the old Dillon Raceway. Jones was excited to learn of the rebuilding of Dillon Motor Speedway and expressed much interest in the reopening of the track.
The Seneca Turkey 300 race will include two days of racing competition beginning with practice and qualifying on Saturday, Nov. 24 and racing on Sunday, Nov. 25.
All local classes of racing will compete, including the Seneca Super Trucks, Newsome Automotive of Florence Late Models, Palmetto Auto Auction Chargers, Street Stock, and Four-Cylinders.
On Saturday, gates will open at 9 a.m. with rotating practice beginning at 10 a.m. Qualifying will start at 4 p.m.
Admission to the grandstands will be free on Saturday. On Sunday, the grandstands will open at noon, with the green flag dropping at 2 p.m.
