KINGSTREE - An alert citizen who heard the sound of gunshots and made a 911 call, resulted in the apprehension of Sherman Ladrake Maurice Graham, 30, of 105 Eric Street, Kingstree, who is charged with robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, and assault and battery with the intent to kill.
The incident occurred at a Kingstree business, Monday Nov 19.
Deputies Wayne McFadden and J. A Hyman of the Williamburg County Sheriff's Department responded to the call at Andrews Fabricators while the incident was still in progress.
According to the incident report, as deputies entered the building, they heard the demand, "Hurry up and give me the money."
In the hallway, they met a black masked male, with a black hand gun, who surrendered upon orders from the officer.
They also found the victim, Bruce G. Cassleman of Andrews, who had been shot in the side. Cassleman was taken to Williamsburg Regional Hospital, then airlifted to Medical University of SC in Charleston. The suspect was transported to the Williamsburg County Detention Center for booking by sheriff's deputies.
According to the incident report, deputies recovered Cassleman's billfold, and about $3,000 in cash from the suspect, as well as a 9 mm Ruger pistol and a bandanna.
Officers Buffkin and McCrea from the Kingstree Police Department, assisted in the incident, and Sheriff's Investigators Lt. Jeff Scott, Brenda Lambert and Willie Brown are continuing the investigation.
