Luther Gerald Tanner of Hemingway, 72, the husband of Frances Pagano Tanner, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at Tidelands Community Hospice House, Georgetown.
A funeral with Military Recognition was at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5 in Outland Church Of God. Burial followed in Old Field Cemetery. The Rev. Ronald Newton and the Rev. V.R. LeBuhn officiated.

He was predeceased by his parents; his daughter, Marlene Cox; and his brother, Charles Flint Tanner.
Born Nov. 1, 1935 in Hemingway, Mr. Tanner was the son of Zacheous Gladstone Tanner and Omie Leon Miller. He was a 32-year veteran of the United States Navy. His campaign service included the Korean War, Vietnam conflict, Cuban missile crisis and Bay of Pigs military operation. He was the recipient of the Vietnam Bronze Star With Valor; the Combat Service Medal, National Defense Medal, the China Service Medal and the Overseas Service Medal, and also earning six service stars and three service bars. He was a member of Outland Church Of God. He will be remembered as an outdoorsman who loved fishing and was an avid gardener known for his generous sharing of his harvest.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 44 years, are two sons, Luther Randy (Debbie) Tanner of Florence, and James (Marie) Pagano of Lumberton, N.C.; one brother, Ernest Milton (Marion) Tanner of Georgetown; a sister, Mildred Sybil (Rudy) Cook of Johnsonville; and four grandchildren, Luke Tanner, Charlie Tanner, Clay Cribb and Christopher Cox.
