Swanson Clio Smith, 81, of Lake City died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007 in a Florence hospital after an illness.
A graveside service was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 in the Mt. Hope Mausoleum Chapel. Entombment followed in the mausoleum.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Lake City or to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Rockville, MD 20852.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Cleyon R. Smith and a sister, Elise V. Taylor.
Born in Smoaks, Mr. Smith was a son of the late Addie Robert and Claudia Langdale Smith. He retired after 40 years service with CSX Railroad and a former Fire Chief in St. Stephens. He was a proud to serve his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II, a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lake City and a member of the Adult 5 Men’s Sunday School Class at Calvary Baptist Church in Lake City.
Surviving are his wife, Flora Lee Griffin Smith of the home; children, Sharon S. (Covy) Smith of Florence and Swanson Craig Smith of Darlington; step-son, William R. (Tempee) Allison of Summerville; a brother, Leonard M. Smith of Rocky Mount, N.C.; grandchildren, Brian Allison of Summerville, Beth Stair of Mt. Pleasant and Whitney McCullough of Lexington; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
