“We are integrating care with our transportation partners to get a maximum benefit for our patients,” said Dr. Kris Crawford a physician and emergency room medical director for Lake City Community Hospital.
On Nov. 14 at 2:30, Lake Community Hospital will have a drill with participation from emergency services, Lake City Fire Department, First Choice Ambulance Services and Life Net Helicopter Service, according to registered nurse Jordan Matthews who is the emergency room nursing director.
Crawford said the helicopter will land on the front lawn of the hospital and hopefully in the future the hospital will get a helicopter landing pad.
“This adds a lot of capacity to the hospital,” Crawford said explaining it sends patients to the nearest facility in the shortest time possible.
Crawford has been working in emergency room medicine for five years and has been on the emergency room staff at Lake City Community Hospital for two years.
For one and a half years, he has served as the department’s medical director.
Crawford explained some recent trauma situations he has experienced.
He said a nine-year old girl fell off a golf cart and was bleeding in her brain and described another patient who came into the emergency room with similar injuries, explaining helicopter services would be vital in such situations.
Crawford said if someone came into the emergency room, experiencing a heart attack, the hospital can treat the patient in the same manner as if they were at other hospitals.
