Alberta "Bert" Swinnie Parker, 93, died on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007 in West Columbia.
A funeral was at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4 at Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church in West Columbia. The Rev. Craig Langston and Bishop William H. Willimon officiated. Internment followed at the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Bessie Bellamy Parker Scholarship Fund, 4908 Colonial Drive, Columbia, 29203-6070, which provides scholarship assistance to women at United Methodist Seminaries who are preparing for ordained pastoral ministry in South Carolina. Bessie Parker was Mrs. Parker’s sister-in-law and was the first woman ordained in the South Carolina Methodist Conference.
Mrs. Parker was the devoted wife of the late Rev. Carl L. Parker who was a United Methodist minister in South Carolina for over 50 years. The Parkers served faithfully churches in Little Rock, Lydia, Little River, Ridgeland, Dillon, Cheraw, Greenville, Florence, Lake City and in retirement Scranton and Coward.Mrs. Parker was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Surviving are her sons Carl (Lee) Parker of Versailles, Kentucky; Fred (Debby) Parker of Eden, N. C. and Don (Louise) Parker of Lexington and her daughter,Patsy (Will) Willimon of Birmingham, Ala; four granddaughters, Keven Langston, Kim Friedburg, Harriet Putman and Whitnei Jeffcoat, and three grandsons, William Willimon, Eric and Tyler Parker; seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Parker, Rebecca and Caroline Langston, Walker Jeffcoat, Will Putman and Parker Willimon.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the loving care provided by the nurses and caregivers at National Heath Care and to Hospice Care of Tri-County.
