Student suspended after fly over at high school football game

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A 17-year-old high school student accused

of flying a single-engine plane over a football game has been

suspended.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials say the teenage pilot

and two passengers flew the length of the field at Hopewell High

School three times around 8 p.m. Friday. The plane reportedly came

within feet of a flag pole.

The two passengers also were suspended from school as the

investigation continues.

School system officials are investigating the possibility that

students knew about the flyover because a signed football was

dropped from the airplane.

Despite being suspended from school and the threat of losing his

pilot's license, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation

Administration says the student is free to fly.
