Two teachers at J. C. Lynch Elementary School were awarded the Bright Ideas grant from Santee Electric. The “‘Prize Patrol” van pulled up at the school to surprise the teachers with their awards. Pictured, fourth grade science and social studies teacher, Melanie Ganes received $1,000. Art Teacher, Jennifer Maples also received a grant for $910. Ganes said the funds will go towards purchasing magnets for students to use in a project. “I’m very excited,” Ganes said. Maples said she will use the funds to purchase digital cameras as well as digital software and animation software for classroom computers. “This shows their initiative,” said Principal Michael Derrick explaining he is proud of the teachers in working to obtain the grants. In addition to receiving funding, Ganes and Maples received balloons, bags, and flowers. Derrick was also given a bag and some students received pencils.
