Today is National Black Forest Cake Day so I am printing a recipe for that classic dessert. It originated in Germany where they have a forest called the Black Forest. The original recipe is for a cake from scratch but I have included an easier shortcut.
Every year on Ash Wednesday, Christians around the world begin a time called Lent where some fast, give up certain things, plan to take up an area of service they haven’t done before or take up a practice that will help them to grow as Christians.
The big day is tomorrow and today I’m printing a couple of stuffing/dressing recipes. One, mom’s stuffing, lightened up, is traditional but on the light side. The other one, shrimp and grits dressing is for the more adventuresome. I hope your holiday is blessed with good food and good fellowship.
This month John Grisham releases his best book in years, and we revisit some classics of legal suspense. Read on!
Today is National Coffee Day. Today I’m printing two recipes that are coffee (mocha) flavored. One is a “light” version of a milkshake and the other is a pecan-mocha pudding made in the microwave. I know some people want more than just a cup of coffee.
Now that football season is underway I am printing a recipe for homemade baked tortilla chips. You could use almost any spice you want to on them but I made two versions; garlic salt and cinnamon and sugar. Both were good. To go with the garlic ones, I’m also printing a dip recipe that is similar to the layered taco dip but this one has fewer ingredients.
A week or so ago, I needed to take something to the library to snack on but my oven was not working. I had a recipe for microwave bread pudding with cinnamon sauce. Since I had all the ingredients I decided to make this and it turned out very well. The recipes for both are below.

One of my daughters-in-law has asked for a recipe for biscuits and gravy which is one of my husband’s favorite dishes but he always orders it when we go out to eat; I have never made it for him. I found a recipe for Hardee’s Biscuits (which he really likes) on-line and I am printing it as one of today’s recipes. Someone else asked for a recipe for egg salad that she saw on TV. with Mr. Food. That will be the other recipe.

Tomorrow, July 28 is National Milk Chocolate Day. This is my daughter’s favorite type of chocolate so I plan on making the Milk Chocolate Brownie recipe for her the next time I see her. I also recently found a light version of the local favorite, Banana Pudding, which uses roasted bananas that intensifies the flavor of the fruit.

A week or so ago, at a get-together, I had some really good sweets, Cinnamon Love Knots. Today this is one of my recipes. They take a bit of preparation but they are worth it when you are done. Then, Emma asked for an easy yeast bread recipe. I gave her several different easy bread recipes, and I’m including one here. Again, it takes time, but you and your family will love the results.
Often we all reflect, I'm sure, about this invasive technological age in which we live and wonder "What am I doing with a Facebook account!"
Becoming a father for the first time sure does create a slew of memories. The prior year in May I was watching my sweetheart grace the stage at the Florence Civic Center during Florence Darlington Technical College’s graduation ceremony.
I am always nervous about showing off my white legs of summer, but when a co-worker exclaimed, loud enough for another co-worker across the hall to hear "What the (heck) you wearin'!" I was mortified!
